- Very few scholarly resources are free on the Internet. Never pay for articles—come to the library and ask for help.
Database Tips:
- Canadian Newsstand are the best databases for Canadian content.
- The Times Colonist is full text in Canadian Newsstand.
- Add individual countries as a geographic limiter when searching for specific country information.
- Remember to try synonyms, plurals, similar concepts, narrower or broader terms.

- Academic Search CompleteAll topics, academic focus, some Canadian content.
- Business Source CompleteBusiness, economics, some Canadian content. Journals, magazines, some online books, company profiles, and market, industry and country reports.
- Canadian NewsstandAll topics; covers major daily Canadian newspapers including the Times-Colonist.
- CBCA - Business & ReferenceCanadian magazines and journals.
- CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature)The most important database for nursing journals and magazines.
- JSTORAn archive of over 200 academic journals in the fields of Arts and Humanities. Often this is the only place to find these journals. Good for historical research.
